What is the benefit of a Curriculum-Based Program?

Feedback and examination are critical to the learning process; it is essential to evaluate whether the educational goals and standards of the lessons are being met. Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) is a form of academic assessment which is commonly used by teachers to shed light on students progress in academic areas.

CBM can also be helpful to parents because it provides current, week-by-week information on the progress their child is making. When a teacher uses CBM, he or she finds out how well the child is internalising the taught material over a given time period. If a child’s performance is not meeting expectations, the teacher is encouraged to change the way they teach or find a methodology that suits each individual child needs in order to make sufficient progress toward academic goals. CBM graphs ensure that the progress of each child as well as the academic goals is clear to both the parent and teacher. CBM helps facilitate constructive communication between the two parties.

Information acquired through regular assessment can be used to review specific information about the child’s performance. This allows both the parent and school to develop measurable goals and objectives that will lead to more meaningful progress for their child.

Many of the learning resources available online such as code.org provide teachers with automatic assessment tool that allow them to track students learning progress. Feedback is offered after every completed stage to help the user recognise and learn from their mistakes.
